Coca-Cola Europacific Partners France and Plastipak celebrate 10 years of recycling innovation

Infineo 10 years 2

25/05/2023

This year Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) France and Plastipak celebrated the 10th anniversary of Infineo, a pioneering recycling centre in France.

Infineo is the only recycling plant in France which works across the entire recycling chain, from collection to manufacture, using a closed loop, "bottle to bottle" recycling process. This ensures that food-grade plastic is not downcycled and is continuously available for use in CCEP France’s recycled PET bottles.

The milestone comes as a 1.5 million euro investment is made by Plastipak into a new "ReTri" loop for bottles arriving at the site, optimising the sorting process and allowing the team to recycle 2,000 tonnes of additional PET bottles each year.

The ongoing partnership with Plastipak has helped CCEP to accelerate the use of rPET across its portfolio in France: since April 2022, all 50cl PET bottles of the Coca-Cola brands with or without sugars, Sprite and Fanta have joined a range of brands which are already made from 100% recycled PET (rPET). This transition will eliminate the equivalent of approximately 5,400 tonnes of virgin PET in 2023.

This development will also contribute to CCEP’s ambition to reduce GHG emissions by 30% across its entire value chain by 2030 (compared to 2019) - the use of 100% recycled PET reduces the carbon footprint of each bottle by 70%, compared to the use of virgin PET made from petroleum (source ADEME, 2017 ).
