As one of the FMCG companies, CCEP Indonesia continues to innovate to reduce carbon emissions generated from the production process to the entire supply chain. This was conveyed at the "Innovating Industries in Low Carbon" session at the Katadata Sustainability Action for the Future Economy 2023 (SAFE 2023) event at Hotel Indonesia Kempinski, Jakarta, on Tuesday (26/9).

Public Affairs, Communication & Sustainability Director for Indonesia and PNG Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Lucia Karina conveyed the company's ambition to use at least 100 percent of electricity from renewable energy sources for its Indonesian operations by 2030. The company also set a net zero emission target by 2040.

This effort to encourage sustainable business processes is translated into program initiatives, such as sustainable ingredients; manufacturing processes consisting of sustainable energy use and operational efficiency: customer and packaging that refers to the use of recycled PET packaging; and closing the loop bottle to bottle, as well as community development by implementing environmental conservation as well as circular economy practices.

In terms of sustainable energy use, for example, CCEP Indonesia chose to invest in solar panels. "Because we don't rent rooftop solar installations from others, and that's why the investment value is quite large. The question is why we use it ourselves because by owning it ourselves, we become more responsible for what we have," said Karina.

In addition, he said, it is making decarbonization efforts from the grassroots area. The company encourages suppliers to receive guidance and training on carbon reduction efforts. The target is that by 2030, all suppliers will have a roadmap for carbon emission reduction.

Sustainability Action for the Future Economy (SAFE) is an annual forum organized by Katadata since 2020. SAFE is a forum to discuss sustainable economic development solutions.

Presenting more than 40 expert and professional speakers, as well as a target of one thousand participants from professionals, activists, practitioners, and enthusiasts in sustainable development and business, SAFE 2023 brings together all stakeholders, from government, companies, academics to civil society organizations to explore concrete actions towards a sustainable economy in Indonesia.
